Product title length distribution in Google Shopping organic results
Product title length distribution
Data based on the last 30 days of data from Productrise.
Understanding product title length
According to Google's official documentation, product titles should be between 1-150 characters. Google recommends using all available 150 characters to provide as much detail as possible about your product, including brand, product type, attributes like color, size, and material.
It's important to note that the lengths shown here are the titles as they appear in organic Google Shopping results, not the titles merchants submit in their feed. Google often rewrites product titles to better match user search intent, so a title you submit may be modified by Google's algorithms before it shows in the SERP. For that reason this data describes what Google actually displays — it does not tell you an "ideal" or "optimal" length to write for. For more on that, see our analysis on whether Google rewrites product titles.
What the data shows
The chart above displays the distribution of product title lengths found in organic Google Shopping results over the last 30 days. You can see clear patterns in how titles are structured, with certain character lengths being more common than others.
Title length extremes in our dataset
Use this distribution as a snapshot of what Google currently shows in organic results — not as a target length. Because Google rewrites titles, the length that appears in the SERP is only partly under a merchant's control. Prioritize clarity and relevance in the titles you submit, and let this data serve as context for what tends to show up.
