Understanding product carousel distribution

The chart above shows how many product carousels appear on each search result page. Each carousel represents a distinct group of products displayed together in Google Shopping results. The distribution reveals how common it is to see multiple product carousels on a single SERP.

It's important to note that the majority of queries tracked within Productrise are of commercial intent, meaning they're searches where users are actively looking to purchase products. This commercial focus means our data reflects shopping-oriented search behavior rather than informational queries.

What the data shows

The distribution helps understand how Google structures product visibility across different search queries. Some queries may show no product carousels at all, while others can display multiple carousels, each potentially containing different product groups or categories. This variation reflects Google's algorithm determining when and how many product carousels are relevant for a given search query.

How we calculate this data

We count the number of distinct product carousels per SERP result. Each carousel represents a separate group of products displayed together on the search results page. SERP results with no product carousels are counted as having zero carousels. The average is calculated across all SERP results in the dataset, and the percentage represents the proportion of SERPs that contain at least one product carousel.
