How the mapping works

This free Google product category checker turns your product text into an embedding, a list of a few hundred numbers that captures its meaning rather than its keywords. Every one of Google's ~5,595 product categories was encoded the same way, so each is a fixed point in the same space. We rank categories by how closely their points align with yours using cosine similarity, and those top matches are the real answer. To make that space visible, we flatten its hundreds of dimensions down to the two you see here with PCA, so dots that sit near each other genuinely share meaning.
